Curfew Cocktail Bar, CPH

This place! Their inventive cocktails! An old-school feel, a genuine Tommy gun and an old gangster hat behind the bar, what’s not to love?!

This bar has a very special feel, a touch of war and gangsters from way back. Walking in, I loved it immediately!

It was an honor to collaborate with a place that has captured key elements in their locations history and used these as inspiration for their design and the feel of the place today.

About the location; it’s said that during 2nd World War, German officers hung out here.

In the 1950s the place was frequented by gangsters and ‘black marketers’…

From the 1960s and onwards the place has been for locals drinking beer, ‘snaps’ and smoking, until it in 2015 became Curfew Cocktail Bar.

I tasted the insane combination of gin and liquorice… an absolute must try! It’s named “The Unfaithful” and created by Humberto Marques, international bartender and owner of Curfew Bar.

Here is the entire recipe:

  • 5 cl Hendricks gin
  • 4 slices of cucumber
  • 1 cl Cointreau
  • 3 cl fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 cl honey
  • 1/2 bar spoon of Danish raw liquorice powder by Johan Bülow (or other raw liquorice from liquorice roots – steamed, pressed or granulated, alternative use 2 cl liquorice honey syrup)

Muddle, shake and fine strain into a vintage Cocktail glass

Humberto has created a whole range of unique cocktails, even one called ‘First Aid’.

I look forward to visiting again, during opening hours, and trying a lot more of these.
